Our Alberta Locals Employer demand for ironworkers in Alberta is high and rising, especially with the combination of rising oil prices and national infrastructure spending. Our Locals in Edmonton and Calgary are busy in virtually all sectors. Employers need structural and reinforcing ironworkers as well as welders. We are also interested in applications from commercial ironworkers who want to begin working industrial. Oilsands shutdowns in Northern Alberta will keep many of our members busy for months. We have seven 30-storey-plus high-rise projects underway and there is plenty of windmill construction happening – and about to happen – in South Central and Southern Alberta. There is plenty of powerhouse work in Northern Alberta. We are converting the Genesee Power Plant (near Edmonton) from a coal power facility to a combined cycle, natural gas power plant. Genesee currently has 25 ironworkers employed. It will peak at 80. The Cascade Power Project in Edson has a callout for 25 Ironworkers. It is being paid at full Industrial rates. Rodbusters are in constant demand, especially in and around the major cities of Calgary and Edmonton. Pay in Alberta is good. Full-package Journeyman structural ironworker rates are more than $57/hr total package, and commercial journeymen earn just over $50/hr total package. Rodbusters earn just a few dollars an hour less. Both of our Alberta Locals have great training facilities, so please apply now and let us know you want to begin your ironwork career. | ||
