A strong future
Only a few years ago, a federal Cabinet Minister said: "According to different industry councils, we're looking at shortages of hundreds of thousands of construction trades people in the next decade."
Mostly because the newer generation has a lot fewer people in it than the 'Baby Boomer' generation did, there is a growing shortage of skilled professional tradespeople for the construction industry.
There's lots of demand for construction in Ontario, so as ‘Baby Boomers' retire, there will be a rising need for people in all trades – and Ironworkers are no exception.
That increased demand is likely to mean steadier work for all trades, which means that, in general, you can count on more stable employment over the years of your career than the Baby Boomer Generation experienced (and they did pretty well!).
